Ship Hector Bonspiel a success!

Last weekend, Feb 7-9 2025, the New Caledonian Curling Club hosted this year’s Ship Hector Bonspiel. The 51st edition of this popular curling tournament was held in Pictou county at our 4 area curling clubs; the Bluenose (New Glasgow), the Stellar (Stellarton), Westville and the New Caledonian (Pictou). There were 56 teams from around Atlantic Canada and Saint Pierre and Miquelon who took part over the weekend in 136 games culminating in various events & trophy finals as well as a bonspiel championship game Sunday afternoon, held across all four clubs.
The Pictou Curling Centre held the finals for the 2025 Tweed event, 2025 New Caledonian Trophy and the 2025 Ship Hector Championship. In turn, the winners were:

2025 Tweed Event winners – Team Campbell (Mayflower CC); Liam Campbell (skip), Violet Campbell (mate), Allen Campbell (second), Ed MacKenzie (lead)

2025 New Caledonian Trophy winners – Team Kent (Lakeshore CC); Samantha Kent (skip), Jolena Rafuse (mate), Heidi MacDonald (second), Kourtney Rodgers (lead)

2025 Ship Hector Bonspiel Champions – Team Hurley (Halifax CC); Alex Hurley (skip), Joshua Henderson (mate), Mark Gordon (second), Ben Parker (lead), Stephen Allen (spare)

Skins Bonspiel this weekend!

NCCC is hosting a Skins Bonspiel this coming weekend, Jan 11th and 12th. We have 6 teams entered, each guaranteed 3 games, and every end in every game is worth cash!

FYI, here’s what is at stake in each end of each game level. There is also a winners’ bonus for the Championship team.

Two pools of three teams:

Pool 1 -        Team A – Mike McKenzie  (first draw 10:00AM Saturday)

Team B – Leroy MacEachern (first draw 10:00AM Saturday)

Team C – Barb Raymont (first draw 1:00PM Saturday)

Pool 2 -      Team D – Kara Taylor (first draw 10:00AM Saturday)

Team E – Cliff Taylor (first draw 10:00AM Saturday)

Team F – Donnie English (first draw 1:00PM Saturday)

You will play the other two teams in your pool in qualifying games.  Those two games are on Saturday (see below).

On Sunday at noon, there are two cross-over playoff games. The winners of those games square off in the Championship game at 3:00PM Sunday.

The two teams finishing third in their divisions will play in the Consolation game, also at 3:00PM on Sunday

We plan on having pot-luck available throughout the day on Saturday to make it easy to grab a quick bite between draws.  Any New Caledonian CC members who wish to contribute a dish to the cause is welcome to bring something along.

Please arrive at New Caledonian at least ½ hour ahead of your first draw so that I can go over the rules before we start.
